not the reader's digest edition

one of the plans of my married life was when richard retired we would move into the property management and flipping business. had a business plan, name, etc. he was already doing small projects for co-workers and that was going well.

then his supervisor got "orders" to germany and needed someone to manage her condo. per then no fraternizing policy of the military richard could not work directly for her. so, i was the lucky duck. whilst married he still did the maintenance stuff but i was the go to girl for renter/owner liaison.

since i love confrontation this job was just so not up my alley. anyway, when richard retired from the military, ditched the family and struck out on his own i contacted owner and said - hey, i'm out. you and richard work this out.

three months later she contacted me and begged me to go back to work for her. what could i say. i was working a $10 hour job and the extra cash was helpful.

after five years and a fantastic upswing in the market the renter gave notice and the owner decided no more renting - let's sell this beyotch!

ah.

renter. here is where i must censor my mouth.  renter tried desperately not to give 30 days notice. then resend notice, then tried to move out without giving 30 day notice..apparently i was the one confused. finally nailed renter down to 30 day notice but actually moves out 9 days prior.

during final walk through i am unable to check the sinks, showers and toilets because she's had the water turned off 'because i moved out'. ok, no problem. i'll have owner turn water on but i'm not passing the inspection on said items until i can test them.

ahhhhh...so. renter did not have water turned off - water was turned off by water company for lack of payment. owner cannot turn water on until bill is paid. several days later bill is paid and water is on.

meantime....many, many negative degree below temperature.

ergo, this....

i'm 99.999999% sure i will never manage a piece of property EVER again.
